Doc Licata Plays The Beatles at Pizza Plant Italian Pub, June 1st

Date: June 01, 2017

Time: 7:00 pm

Doc Licata is a veteran of the local music scene whose earliest musical memories are of “race records” his mom bought in the ’50s. He sings and plays guitar and blues harp. Buffalo born and raised (P.S. 68, 81 and Riverside High School), Doc completed chemistry and education degrees at UB and taught for 34 years in Williamsville, mostly at South High, with a good start at Casey Middle. He also taught in UB’s Graduate School of Education on and off for nearly 20 years. Doc treasures those experiences and loves when teaching colleagues, former students or their parents turn up at gigs.

Musical interests and influences range widely across rock, blues, jazz and classical genres. Doc’s performing repertory centers on rock and blues with forays into standards and folk music. He is something of a Beatle specialist (and fanatic) and is happy to talk about his pilgrimage to Liverpool and London in pursuit of contact with the Beatles’ roots and career. Solo performances include plenty of Beatles and great tunes from across the rock era. Doc played classic rock with Still Kickin’ and wailed on vocals and harp with the Lucky Break Blues Band. His newest trio project, Snowing Sideways, rocks from Buddy Holly to Lumineers.
