The Hovelists at Stamps The Bar, March 30

Date: March 30, 2017

Time: 6:00 pm

The Hovelists are an American alternative rock band based out of Olean, New York. The band currently consists of vocalist and guitarist Chris Curcio, vocalist and bassist Josh Wells, and drummer Jose Crespo. The group started as a home studio recording project in Chris’s basement and emerged as a full band in the spring of 2016 with the addition Josh and Jose. The band’s name comes from “The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch” a novel by Philip K. Dick. Much of Chris’s songwriting is influenced by Philip’s brand of postmodern paranoia.

To date The Hovelists have recorded and self-released seven EP’s on Bandcamp. Their EP If You Don’t earned a favorable response from listeners. The title track “It Just Came to Me” received airtime on local college radio stations. It charted at 21 on CJAI 92.1 FM Amherst Radio for the week of February 3, 2015. The trio’s recordings and performances range in sound from Alternative/Punk Rock to Experimental/Post-Rock songs with an occasional surrealist track included. The group draws from several influences such as The Pixies, Modest Mouse, and Nirvana to create their own brand of Punk Rock.

The Hovelists are currently performing regionally and recording tracks for their first full-length album Error of the Second Kind. The Album is being recorded and produced by the band. Error of the Second Kind is scheduled for release in the May of 2017 and The Hovelists will be following it up with a tour of the U.S. North East.
